The Message

The Message Bible by Eugene Peterson is an easy-to-read modern-language paraphrase bible.  The translation philosophy is "thought-for-thought.  Converts the original languages into the tone and rhythms of modern day speech while retaining the meaning of the original languages".  The paraphrase was translated using the rhythms and tone of contemporary English to communicate to the modern reader.  It was published in 1993.
